The Biltmore estate's chief architect was Richard Morris Hunt, a leading architect of the 19th century. Hunt began his relationship with the Vanderbilt family. He designed and built their grand estates during the Guide Age. Hunt based his design on Chateau de Blois in the Loire Valley.
